Thanks to machine learning advances, Siri can have a level of emotion. In the new and improved Siri, which will be part of the upcoming OS release in the Fall, Siri now has the ability to speak with basic expressiveness. Apple introduced it with iOS 3, back when the iPhone 3GS was an exciting new device. Voice Control is Siri’s older, dumber brother. Yesterday, when Apple played the new Siri, this only hit home for me even more. Voice Control lets you control music and make phone calls. Is it something we need to keep an eye on as an industry in the coming years? Absolutely! Will it ever replace the human voice entirely? Hopefully not while I’m still working.

My point, in this particular panel, was that as text-to-speech technology improves, I fully expect more and more people are going to begin using it as an inexpensive alternative to hiring a professional voice actor. Voice assistants are personal helpers that reside in smartphones, computers and other. In fact, statistics from Mindshare say an estimated 600 million people worldwide use voice assistants at least once a week. It sounded absolutely awful… but to their point… it was free! Whether you’ve asked Alexa to play your favorite song or questioned Siri about tomorrow’s weather, chances are high you’ve used a voice assistant at least once in your life. They began using a computer generated voice. Then one day, one of my regular clients stopped calling.

I couldn't believe it - the replacement phone had the same problem! Siri wasn't audible on the speakers. The original Siri voice is that of a woman. Her voice also paved the way for Apple to be one of the leaders in the voice market. Today, Susan Bennett’s voice is in the hands of millions of people around the world. They gave up and sent me a replacement iPhone 4S which I received today. Instead, she recorded the voice-over for Siri in July of 2005, even before Apple bought Siri. Then I called Apple Care and they couldn't figure it out either.
Speaker worked for everything else, but not Siri. Siri was audible only on the earbuds or bluetooth, but no longer audible on the speakers. Friends, I have just the solution for you! And it has worked on two iphones!
